Question from a reader:”Do I need a passport for US domestic air travel. Planning a multi city business junket and I haven’t flown in awhile (since security was beefed up years ago). Thanks.”
My answer is no, for US domestic air travel, as of May 2009, you don’t need to have a passport. If you are flying to Mexico, Canada or the islands, you will need one.
You will need though a state issued picture id (like in California either a California driver’s license or identification card) or if you are without a picture id, at least a birth certificate (for newborns).
Also, the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative will take effect in June, 2009 (somebody email me or post if I am wrong on this one) . All American citizens should apply for a US passport. A US passport is the only worldwide, universally-accepted form of travel identification for Americans. Makes sense. While Americans will still be able to cross land borders domestically without one after June of 2009, a US passport will speed up the process considerably and make for fewer delays at border crossing stations.
Hope that helps, good luck with your trip and business!

Part of all the proceeds from the sales of that book go to Rett Syndrome research. One girl is born with Rett Syndrome worldwide every fifteen minutes. My daughter Arianna has Rett Syndrome and we are working to do all we can to make her life easier and find a cure in her lifetime. Boys born with the Rett gene generally die at birth.
