Don’t Hide Money In Your Mattress

In almost a cliche like situation, a woman threw out her mother’s mattress and it had $1000000 in it.  A Israeli woman who is only going by the name, Anat, (a good idea since she would be hounded by golddiggers or in this case mattressdiggers)  threw out a mattress with $1 million inside, setting off a massive series of searchs through  garbage at a number of landfill sites.  The woman told Army Radio that she bought her elderly mother a new mattress as a surprise on Monday and threw out the old one, only to discover that her mother had hidden her life savings inside. When she went to look for the mattress it had already been taken by garbage men, she said. Subsequent searches at three different landfill sites turned up nothing.

At one dump they have increased security and Anat is taking this in stride as best as one can finding out that they literally have trashed one million bucks.

Folks, not sure how things and thieves work in Israel but one of the first things I would do if I were breaking and entry (and I have been told this by police and ex-burglars) is to go straight to the bedroom and look on or around or in the bed.  The reason is that people hide their cash, life savings or in some cases weapons in the bedroom for easy access if there is a fire or an emergency.  Thieves know this and they go there first and can be in and out in seconds or minutes.

To be fair, her mom was probably old world and didn’t trust banks and the way that banks have been screwing around with investments and loans, I don’t blame her.  The sad reality is that she ended up causing herself more grief by hiding the money.

I wonder if that money was legal and if it was taxed already.  If not she may have some answers for the government as to how the heck did you get a million bucks and what is it doing in your mattress or the dump?

If anybody finds the million dollars let us know please.  But make sure you wash your hands to get all the shmootz off after you find it in the dump.

There has to be a movie or book in this story somewhere…

My guess is the daughter took the money out first. Face it, how do you not notice all the lumps in the bottom of the mattress and I highly doubt they were ALL $1000 bills. And even if they were, there still would be a $1000 of them.

Good question and more importantly, where did she get all the money over the years? I don’t think the daughter took it out unless she accidentally found it, really hated mom and wanted to make bank and do a final act to aggrevate her mom. Hopefully that wasn’t the case.

Yes, and didn’t the smell of the mattress and money bring him out of a coma? Life imitating animated art at its best. Er except I don’t think you can smell money in a real life garbage dump, unless the money is suppose to smell like garbage.
