A good friend of mine asked in all the talks about GM and the car companies restructuring and getting on their feet (or going down in defeat) if I remembered reading that they had merged or that Toyota bought pieces of GM.
It was an interesting piece of business and honestly I was trying to see and remember where I read it. I did find the hoax April 1 article from a year or so ago about Toyota buying GM but I didn’t find anything specifically about Toyota acquiring a controlling interest in GM. GM did sell the stake in Subarau to Toyota back in 2005 if memory serves me correctly.
I think that was part of the Fuji heavy deal that GM unloaded to Toyota and there may have been some other components that were part of it.
If anybody has any articles or knows in any financial statements something that I missed, please let me know otherwise I will stand on the fact that I think that GM is not owned/merged with Toyota. It is owned by us, the US taxpayers.
It would be worthwhile to show you the “Toyota Way” slogan that drives Toyota. There are four points that they use:
Long-term thinking as a basis for management decisions.
A process for problem-solving.
Adding value to the organization by developing its people.
Recognizing that continuously solving root problems drives organizational learning
Principles like that are something that we need to reincorporate into our business environment here in the United States, don’t you think?
