Our President and Congress, similar to the past Administrations in the last several decades have gotten it wrong. We need to create jobs, create them domestically and they need to be involved with manufacturing. People all over the world are making things that we are buying. The beef that American labor costs too much is the price you pay for making quality goods. There is a happy medium that can be met if both management and the rank & file come to realistic terms. Robots aren’t the best thing you can have in a business. The reason is that robots don’t make a salary.
Why are salaries so important?
Why because without salaries and income, the consumer, who use to work for a living will stop buying your stuff. Also don’t bother looking overseas to China since they are doing their own manufacturing, thank you, and they will take whatever ideas and innovations we have and start their own local plants which will make the products cheaper than the international branding products. China has a lot of people employed with manual processing and they are making a lot of consumer goods, in fact too many consumer goods. A lot of stuff is being dumped (or trying to) around the world and people are having problems with trying to do business in China.
Think I am kidding? Ask all the people who are trying to start up plants and manufacturing in China. They have their products copied locally and made cheaper once they get going. Welcome to the international marketplace, ladies and gentlemen.
The place to be is here in the United States. Here in California especially, we need our Governor and the State legislature to stop jerking around and do something to keep people employed, attract business and stop trying to balance a budget that has no basis in reality since the important thing is to get people working and get business attracted back into the State of California. Our local film business is down and almost out thanks to production going to other states. Thank goodness at least some stuff will be shot here (like the Iron Man sequel hopefully).
We need to focus our money and energy domestically for awhile. Other countries are doing the same and we should take a page from the economic recovery plans and apply it here.
I am not suggesting that we close our borders but I am suggesting that we get manufacturing and businesses going here in the United States if we want to have a shot regaining whatever semblance of a middle class lifestyle that most people are aspiring to.
While I am full of piss’n'vinegar I want to comment on the cuts for caring for special needs and the elderly. The city, state and county governments are not ready to handle the overflow of taking care of all the people who will be dropped off into state run or county run homes. The price for care is A LOT higher than paying for a relative to take care of someone. Please write your Governor, your Congressional leaders and tell them that if they really want to take care of the special needs people, the orphan children, the elderly and infirmed, we can start by dropping them off at the houses of our leaders. Let them take care of our loved ones and friends and see how easy and inexpensive it is. I haven’t even addressed dealing with people who go ballistic and require medication to stay level. There aren’t enough soldiers or police out there to deal with large influxes of people who are unbalanced and uncared for.
In the meantime, please try to have a good weekend. I am getting off my soapbox.

Part of all the proceeds from the sales of that book go to Rett Syndrome research. One girl is born with Rett Syndrome worldwide every fifteen minutes. My daughter Arianna has Rett Syndrome and we are working to do all we can to make her life easier and find a cure in her lifetime. Boys born with the Rett gene generally die at birth.
